new reviews

Welcome to fakejazz.com. We're a little sad to be turning over a new issue this time, as it means we have to take down the images of Piper Perabo and the rest of the Coyote Ugly cast that graced the top and bottom of this page. We're happy to report that Coyote Ugly has received audience support well and above the critical acclaim it received before its release. The movie, like most cerebral, highly acclaimed films, started off strong but not on top, debuting at a solid number 4 ranking. Since then, it has gained a lot of momentum, staying in the top 10 during all three weeks of its release so far, with a solid shot at remaining there again this week. We are ecstatic to have contributed, even in such a small part, to the overwhelming success of such a wonderful film.

While reading David Christensen's recent interview with Dianogah, I was surprised I had never seen anyone else ask those boys these things before. What better to ask a band with two bassists, a drummer, and no guitars than their opinions on several of the most prominent bassists in rock history? While only a couple of their rants and praises go in depth, it's still quite interesting to hear their opinions on these other bassists.

As we said in our last issue, the release of a new Shellac album is a special event for many of the writers at fakejazz.com. When we began this little internet venture, we were a little worried that each issue, everyone would end up reviewing the same two records, and we'd end up with a lot of duplicate reviews. Well, it turns out the interests of our writers are a little more divergent than we initially thought. Still, a Shellac record is something most of us are interested in writing about. As such, to add to Dick Baldwin's review of 1000 Hurts in the last issue, we have five new reviews of the album for this issue. Somewhat interestingly, while the base opinion, good or bad, of many of the reviews are the same, the reasoning behind each of those opinions is a bit different. See which you agree with, if any, and send the rest of the writers hate mail for being so stupid.

Let us know if you have any comments, either send us an email or leave a note on our message board. We heart feedback.

Look for our next issue on September 16th. We've got some great interviews coming up so stay tuned. Thanks for reading.
